On the evening of July 04, 1988, 18-year-old Sally Ann McNelly and 17-year-old Shane Paul Stewart, went out together to Lake Nasworthy to view an annual fireworks display at the lake.

A visiting judge certified six more ballots in the contested Republican primary for the Kaufman County Court-at-Law seat Friday, then declared that voting improprieties proved in the case had left no way to determine the true winner. As a result, contestant Tracy Gray and incumbent Judge Dennis Jones will meet again in a July 21 special election, with the winner advancing to the general election in November.

Accused of vote harvesting in race that was decided by a single vote, Terrell elections worker Brenda Prince testified Tuesday that she did nothing wrong. The Kaufman County elections supervisor testified, meanwhile, that the March 6 Republican primary was a fair contest in which only legitimate votes were counted.

But a Kaufman County judicial candidate's suit focuses instead on a March 6 GOP primary that was decided by a single vote. The absentee vote made the difference in the re-election bid by County Court-at-Law Judge Dennis Jones.
